The niece of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. has called out the media for its continual “Grinchy” attacks on First Lady Melania Trump and her attire, as well as for its “hurtful” criticism of the White House Christmas decorations and events.
Unlike its treatment of former First Lady Michelle Obama, Washington, DC’s largest leftist daily took aim at virtually every aspect of Melania Trump’s fashion sense and decorative style this Christmas.
“The [first lady’s] coat looks ridiculous, but more than a silly fashion folly, the coat is a distraction – it’s a discomforting affectation taken to a ludicrous extreme,” a Washington Post reporter ridiculed the first lady. “In a video that is intended to celebrate the warmth and welcoming spirit of the holiday season, that simple flourish exudes cold, dismissive aloofness.”
Dr. Alveda King – who serves as Priests for Life‘s director of Civil Rights for the Unborn – condemns the criticism.
“I don’t understand how that hateful spirit is free to operate, right in the midst of this season, where we should be healing, loving, forgiving, and, for me, celebrating Jesus Christ as an expression of faith,” King stated in a press release issued Friday by Alveda King Ministries. “Yes, we still have religious freedom thanks to President Trump’s leadership, and we joyfully say ‘Merry Christmas’ again, yet the attacks on First Lady Trump remain ugly and unmerited. Friends, America is much better than that. To attack a First Lady at all, it’s just wrong.”
After contending that the president’s wife makes people feel uncomfortable, the Post’s fashion critic Robin Givhan attempted to tear down her sense of style.
“The coat tossed over the shoulders is a generic styling maneuver; it’s often used in editorial photographs so that a model can show off the entirety of an ensemble, including what’s underneath the coat, because all of it has been thoughtfully coordinated ” Givhan continued. “But even the most devoted fashion stylist realizes that at a certain point, when aesthetics start to overwhelm logic, when a flourish becomes a cliché, it’s time to retire it. For Trump, the cliché seems to be a crutch – a way of not having to be fully present.”
King reminded America how the Trumps have unabashedly invited Jesus to the nation’s Christmas celebration – unlike the more politically correct rendition portrayed by the Obama’s holiday festivities.
“Christmas in America is always a special time when we still enjoy religious freedom and the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior,” the pro-life evangelist noted. “And yes, we do say ‘Merry Christmas’ very freely and very joyfully again. That was a campaign promise that President Donald John Trump made – and he has kept that promise and many others.”
The Christian leader commends Mrs. Trump’s virtuous way of conducting herself.
“Our First Lady is a gem among gems, whose beauty, grace and strength of character are second to none,” King wrote in her column for Townhall. “As it is written in the Book of Proverbs, ‘Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.’ We should be holding Melania up for the world to see, not trying to tear her down.”
King added more accolades for Melania Trump’s tasteful, spiritual and elegant Christmas attire and décor.
“As usual, the First Lady has adorned the White House in a manner that reflects her stunningly good taste, turning the always beautiful Christmas decor into a truly breathtaking display,” King wrote. “The decorations are exquisite, creative, festive, elegant, and celebratory – words that also perfectly describe the way Melania looked when she announced them.”
King followed up by showing her gratitude for Melania Trump going out of her way to make Christmas in the White House a blessing to all Americans.
“Why would anyone want to disparage the First Lady with vicious lies after she worked so hard to provide us with such beauty?” she asked. “We should all be thanking her and her talented staff, who go so far out of their way every year to turn the White House into an aesthetic treasure that we can all take pride in.”
Dr. King wasn’t the only one lashing out at the mainstream media’s unwarranted attack on the way the Trumps celebrate Christmas.
“Our #First Lady under attack for everything from wearing pants to her choice in Christmas décor,” Fox Business’s Trish Regan tweeted last week. “It’s wrong, it’s mean – and it’s about time someone called them out.”
